Lady Antebellum – 747 International Deluxe Edition album review

Country trio Lady Antebellum is one of the biggest acts in country music with a fanbase that extends across the entire globe. Following the breakthrough success of their hit single Need You Now in 2009, the band has gone from strength-to-strength regularly selling out headline tours and picking up plenty of awards along the way. In 2014 the band released their fifth album 747, which spawned the hits single Bartender, and gave them a number 2 album on the US Country Chart and the Billboard 200. Next weekend Lady Antebellum return to the UK to headline the second day of C2C: Country To Country and ahead of their appearance theyā€™ve released an International Deluxe Edition of 747.

Upon its initial release we stated that 747 had turned us into a Lady Antebellum fan. After not being overly bothered by their material previously, we were caught by surprise with just how good an album 747 was. Sporting a grittier sound than weā€™d heard from the band before, 747 sees them pushing themselves musically and vocally. The album opens with the rocking Long Stretch of Love setting the tone for whatā€™s to come.

747 is Lady Antebellumā€™s most cohesive album to date with plenty of highlights. The harmony-filled Down South is one of the finest moments on the record along with UK single Lie With Me, US lead single Bartender, and the epic title track. The bandā€™s harmonies are what makes them so special and fans will be pleased to know they take a central role throughout the record.

For the International Deluxe Edition of 747 the release contains the 3 tracks from the original Deluxe Edition release of the album along with 3 acoustic versions of some of their biggest hits. The bonus tracks ā€“ Slow Rollinā€™, All Nighter and Falling For You ā€“ fit neatly with the sound of 747 with All Nighter being the most memorable of the bunch. The acoustic versions see the band performing their hits Just a Kiss, I Run To You and Need You Now. Just a Kiss sounds stunning as an acoustic track and it remains one of our favourite tracks from the band.

The International Deluxe Edition of 747 will likely be snapped up in the run up to C2C: Country To Country and following the bandā€™s headline performance. To truly understand the magic of Lady Antebellum you need to see them live and adding three live tracks to this re-issue is a smart move. If you donā€™t already have the album then this new version should definitely be in your collection. We canā€™t wait to see the band rock C2C next week.
