Thomas Rhett just sat down with press at London’s O2 Arena prior to his performance on the main stage at C2C: Country to Country later today, and he confirmed that he won’t be following Taylor Swift’s lead and ditching Country any time soon.
āGrowing up Country music was my first love. What I fell in love with were the stories and the genuineness of the stories.’ Rhett didn’t rule out evolving his sound though saying, ‘Who knows what the future holds? I just want my music to be heard by as many people as possible.ā
Rhett opened up about coming from a musical family saying, āWhat dad taught me is that patience is key. Really soak in the good moments. It seems like when we have a bit of success, we donāt take time to appreciate it.ā
Tangled Up, Rhett’s current album, has just been released in the UK and is going from strength-to-strength in the US. He shared his worry about releasing the album explaining, āWhen you put your second record out you hope you donāt fall into the thing they called the sophomore slump.’ Thankfully he’s easily avoided that and has enjoyed huge success with his latest single Die a Happy Man, his fifth US number one.
With many of his friends and collaborators having already played shows in the US, Rhett revealed that he had spoken to them about their experiences in the UK. ‘The main thing that has resonated from my friends to me is how certain people will sing your album cuts louder than youāre singles. That makes me want to move out here and never go back.’
Thomas Rhett opens the main stage at C2C: Country to Country tonight at 6.50pm.
