The Great Escape 2016: Foxtrott profile

In two weeks time Brighton will be playing host for the UK’s best music platform and festival for up and coming artists and key music industry players, The Great Escape.

Foxtrott comes hailing form Montreal in Canada. The French Canadian is a self-thought singer, songwriter and producer. Marie-Helene Delorme aka Foxtrott shot to the limelight back in 2012 when she released her debut Shields. Before then the artist was off the stage offering beats and remixing local talent instead.

Profile shows like those at Pop Montreal and M For Montreal in 2013, and in their got the attention of publications such as Noisey, NME, Elle, Brooklyn Vegan and Line of Best Fit, all flagging Foxtrott as One to Watch.

Foxtrott is from a musical background and draws her inspiration from unconventional sounds such as old Cumbia to gospel, from hip-hop to reggae and from early dancehall to singer-songwriters.

The artist is now signed to One Little Indian and has been focusing on her debut album A Taller Us, “My goal was to find the perfect balance between rhythms and frequencies, the production style that I wanted to put forward, and lyrics and emotional presence expressed by the voice. It was a big challenge I set myself,” says Foxtrott.

Make sure you don’t miss her performance, which is set to be spectacular. Canada has been very kind to the music scene in the last few years and this is just another example of the talent that is emerging from the other side of the sea.

You can catch Foxtrott live at Brighton’s Arch at 7pm on Thursday.
