The Devil Makes Three release video for Bad Idea

Country-rockers The Devil Makes Three have released the official video for their song Bad Idea.

The clip was filmed at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. It shows the band setting up for their headline set before performing the driving, uptempo track to thousands of fans.

Bad Idea is taken from The Devil Makes Three’s upcoming record, Chains Are Broken, which is due for release on 24th August on New West Records. The 11-song set is the group’s first album of original material since 2013’s critically acclaimed I’m A Stranger Here. Their most recent record, 2016’s covers collection Redemption & Ruin, gave the group their second number 1 on the Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums Chart.

“I always want our songs to unfold like short stories,” band member Pete Bernhard says of the album. “You could think of them as chapters of a book. This was a much more personal album about what it takes to be a writer of any kind – and what you have to do to make your dream possible. It was really the headspace I was in. It might have something to do with getting older. You start reflecting on life and the people around you. I was doing that in these songs. That’s what makes the record more personal. I’m pulling from these things. Some of it is about drug addiction. Some of it is about the things you sacrifice. Some of it is about the detrimental things we do for inspiration. Nevertheless, they all have some sort of narrative.”

Chains Are Broken features the band’s core trio of Bernhard, Lucia Turino and Cooper McBean, along with their touring drummer Stefan Amidon. It was produced by Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Flogging Molly) and recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso, Texas.

The album’s track listing is:

1. Chains Are Broken
2. Pray For Rain
3. Paint My Face
4. Can’t Stop
5. Need To Lose
6. All Is Quiet
7. Bad Idea
8. Deep Down
9. Native Son
10. Castles
11. Curtains Rise

To support the new album, The Devil Makes Three will also be touring the UK next month. The run of five shows kicks off in Nottingham on 10th September and will finish at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on 14th September, with stops in Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham.
