Sir Paul McCartney to receive special award

The NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas have announced even more exciting news today with a one-off special award, Songwriter’s Songwriter award being handed to Sir Paul McCartney. What makes this news special is that McCartney himself will be picking up the award.

NME took upon themselves to ask world leading songwriters to nominate the best practitioner of their craft for this special one-off Songwriter’s Songwriter award and almost everyone of them picked Sir Paul McCartney. It is undeniable the impact that McCartney has had on the music industry and as a titan of this industry he is the greatest songwriter alive today.

In other NME Awards news Belle & Sebastian have been revealed as the winners of the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution to Music Award. The band will also be playing during the ceremony night. The event will take place on the 26th February at O2 Brixton academy.

Stuart Murdoch from the band comments: “We’ve just kept our head down. We’re the Status Quo of indie, we’re still here – maybe that’s the thing. We’re a baroque pop band that came up in the mid-’90s, during Britpop, and we’re still here!”
