Simply Red to release new album Big Love

Simply Red will release their first new studio album in 8 years it has been announced.

Big Love, released on 1st June, follows the band’s 30th anniversary world tour announcement and sees them teaming up with producer Andy Wright. All of the tracks on the album have been written by frontman Mick Hucknall.

ā€œOnce I began wondering how Simply Red were going to sound, I started writing songs,ā€ says Mick. Big Love is the first Simply Red album to feature only original compositions since 1995ā€™s Life.

Simply Red’s last studio album was 2007’s Stay which was an attempt to move away from their signature sound.

ā€œWith ā€˜Stayā€™ I was running away from Simply Red,ā€ Mick admits. ā€œBut now Iā€™m comfortable with the notion of us as a blue-eyed soul group. I had to stop myself fighting that idea. Our sound is original too. I honestly donā€™t know of another band that has pulled so many musical strands together.ā€
