Her Madgesty is celebrating her 60th birthday this month so we’re dedicating August to the Queen of Pop. We will be picking our A to Z of Madonna singles each day this month as well as asking you to vote for your favourite Madonna album.
Today is brought to you by the letter V.
V is for Vogue. Influenced by the club scene, Madonna came across a dance movement called Vogueing and built this house-pop track around the concept. A classy version of the Macarena you could say! Strike a pose there’s nothing to it.
Single facts
- Vogue has sold a whopping 6 million copies worldwide, topping the charts in countless countries including UK, USA, Australia, Canada and Japan
- Madonna famously lip synced to Vogue whilst performing an intricate dance routine decked out in Rococo style costumes, ala Marie Antoinette, at the MTV Awards
- The track was written with Shep Pettibone who went on to co-write and co-produce the majority of Madonna’s Erotica album including the title track and Deeper and Deeper
- Kylie Minogue paid tribute to Vogue on her Showgirl tour when she recited the spoken middle 8 of the song in a mash up with her own Burning Up song
There were no other Madonna singles beginning with the letter V and it’s just as well as Vogue is a beast of a track and would’ve undoubtedly flattened any competition.
