Madonna Month: A to Z of Madonna Singles – T

Her Madgesty is celebrating her 60th birthday this month so we’re dedicating August to the Queen of Pop. We will be picking our A to Z of Madonna singles each day this month as well as asking you to vote for your favourite Madonna album.

Today is brought to you by the letter T.

T is for Take A Bow. This gorgeous ballad written and produced by Madonna with R&B legend Babyface, shows a vulnerable side of Madonna with silky vocals and poignant lyrics for a performer such as she. It was released in December 1994 as the second single from Bedtime Stories.

Single facts

  • Take A Bow’s video sees Madonna playing the neglected lover of a Matador played by real life bull-fighter Emilio Muñoz
  • Babyface’s other song credits include Bobby Brown’s Don’t Be Cruel, Boyz II Men’s End of the Road, Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again and many, many more.  Quite the ballad pedigree
  • Unfortunately, Take A Bow only charted as high as no.16 on the UK charts ending an historic run of  35 consecutive top 10 singles that spanned a decade.  It did however, give Madonna her 11th US no.1 single
  • Take A Bow picked up the MTV Award for Best Female Video in 1995

There was one other T that we debated picking over Take A Bow and that is True Blue.  Title track from one of Madonna’s best albums, it’s pure sugary pop with hints of doowop.  Other T’s include This Used To Be My Playground from the film A League of their Own, The Look of Love from Who’s That Girl and MDNA banger Turn Up The Radio.
