As Madonna celebrates topping the charts in the US with her latest album Madame X, she’s just dropped the music video for God Control.
Directed by Jonas Ć kerlund, the video is sure to stir up controversy as it depicts a nightclub shooting and calls for gun control. Watch the video below:
In the clip Madonna is seen as Madame X at a typewriter, typing the lyrics to God Control. The video tells the story in reverse with a graphic depiction of a nightclub shooting being the start point.
Over the course of the video we see Madonna get mugged in an alleyway and partying with friends in a nightclub. There are definite shades of Music and Deeper and Deeper in the video and it ends with a sobering message about the need for gun control in America.
The video was posted on YouTube with the following message:
This is your wake up call. Gun violence disproportionately affects children, teenagers and the marginalized in our communities. Honor the victims and demand GUN CONTROL. NOW. Volunteer, stand up, donate, reach out. Wake up and insist on common-sense gun safety legislation. Innocent lives depend on it. Join me in supporting the following organizations:
