Interview: Brooke Law talks new EP

Brooke Law has been writing music since she was 15 and recently started to perform her pieces. Before that was studying a music degree at the Institute of Contemporary Music, where she wrote with leading producers, who worked with Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa and Lana Del Ray. I caught up with the young singer to speak about her future plans and new EP.

Hi, how are you?

I’m great thanks, loving this weather!

Where does this Q&a find you today?

Right now I’m on my lunch break at work!

Could you tell our readers how you got into music?

I’ve always had a super emotional streak and I was a bit of a performer as a child. I love the way music allows you to express yourself.

What can you tell me about your new single, Fight Like A Mother?

It’s the first single I’ve released which has actually introduced the direction I’m going in. It also stands for female power which is a running theme for the EP. -how we as women need to support and look after each other and fight for equality.

How did it come about and how long did it take to write?

Since releasing Hidden on IWD and becoming involved with MWR, I have more knowledge about gender equality especially round the world. The way a child is raised from the beginning is so important, I am so grateful that my parents have taught me to be brave and determined. There are still lower expectations and ideals for women however we are all born from a mother, and the love and support they give is one of the strongest thing. So we should all be respected and valued

Could you tell our readers how your creative process works?

I usually think about whats going on in my life at the time, often what’s bothering me and think of a concept around it. Once I have a concept the lyrics and melody come quite naturally.

What sort of music attracts you now?

I love all music, at the moment I’m craving a night out and really wanna dance so I’d totally tell the taxi driver to put on Capital Xtra.

Will there be an EP soon?

Yes! It’s called Archetypes. The concept of the EP is each song represents a different archetype of a women. Fight Like A Mother represents the nurturer.

Tracklist: 1. Archetypes 2. Free spirit  3. Queen 4. Lover

Are there any upcoming events music fans can see you at?

I’ve got a gig at Notting

Hill Art Club on 28th September.
