First impression: David Nail Night’s on Fire

Almost two years have passed since David Nail released his third album I’m a Fire. On its initial release the album peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and at 13 on the Billboard 200, giving the country star his best charting album to date. I’m a Fire’s lead single was the platinum-selling Whatever She’s Got, his first Country Airplay number one hit. It was followed by the release of Kiss You Tonight, which failed to match the success of its predecessor. Now Nail is back with Night’s on Fire, the first single from his upcoming fourth studio album Fighter.

Night’s on Fire has been knocking around in the US since July 2015 but here in the UK the song has only just arrived. Written by Jonathan Singleton and Deric Ruttan, Night’s on Fire features a strong melody as Nail sings about two lovers getting hot and heavy as they behave like school kids on a date. Musically the song is catchy as hell and Nail’s gritty vocal elevates the song making it much more addictive than any other country singer could.

As a lead single Night’s on Fire is set to do everything a good lead single should; it hooks you in capturing your interest for Fighter, is destined to get plenty of radio airplay, and it’s memorable enough that you’ll be singing it long after the song has finished. It’s about time that Nail got the big breakthrough he so deserves and Night’s on Fire could do that for him.

Based on Night’s on Fire, Fighter could be Nail’s most exciting album yet. I was a big fan of his last record I’m a Fire, which was grossly underrated, and I’m excited to see how Fighter does for him. In a genre littered with sound-alikes, Nail really stands out thanks to his vocal prowess and his songs always contain strong melodies that you can’t get out of your brain.
