Country superstar Eric Church has announced the release of his latest album Desperate Man.
The record is Church’s first studio release in almost three years and will be out on 5th October via EMI Records Nashville. It’s the follow-up to 2015’s Mr. Misunderstood, which won the CMA Award for Album of the Year in 2016 and was certified Platinum by the RCAA earlier this year.
In a video message to his fans, known as the Church Choir, Church said: “It’s been a while, I just want to say I’ve missed you. I have good news… the album is done, and we are back. It’s called Desperate Man, and the first single is called Desperate Man… I look forward to seeing you on the road, and I’m very proud of this album. See you soon.”
Church has also released the album’s title track as its lead single today (13th July). It’s a 70s classic rock-influenced track featuring Church’s trademark gravelly vocals and a huge singalong chorus. Church wrote the song with influential Texas musician Ray Wylie Hubbard, who is mentioned in Church’s 2015 track Mr. Misunderstood.
In 2015, Church surprised the music industry and fans alike with the unannounced release of his album Mr. Misunderstood, which was sent to fans first with no interviews, hype or promotion. The record’s existence was confirmed when Church Choir members spoke to local television networks about how they received it. At the time, Church said, “Everyone is so focused on your first week. But I am more concerned with week 80 than week one.”
Originally from North Carolina, Church first came to country music fans’ attention with the release of his debut album, Sinners Like Me, in 2006. He’s since had 20 Billboard top 20 hits, including the Hot Country number one songs Drink In My Hand and Springsteen, and Country Airplay chart-toppers Give Me Back My Hometown, Talladega and Record Year. Additionally, he’s performed alongside artists including Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Ashley McBryde. His most recent record was his second live album 61 Days In Church, named after his latest tour, which came out in late 2017.
