Dan + Shay have released new single Tequila after teasing fans via their social media accounts for days.
The single may catch fans off guard as it’s not the uptempo track you may expect from the title. Tequila is an emotional ballad that puts a fresh spin on the much-loved alcoholic beverage.
Talking to iHeartCountry Dan said, “We were writing with two of our favourite writers in Nashville – Jordan Reynolds and Nicolle Galyon – and usually we start a song with a title or an idea. Jordan said, ‘what about Tequila?’ and originally we were like, ‘yeah that sounds like a fun party song with a kinda uptempo vibe’ and we spun it.”

He went on to say, “People have nostalgic attachments to senses… smells, tastes and sounds. Tequila is one of those things, like libations of any kind, that will take you back to a certain place and make you see certain things… It’s a heartbreak song.”
Tequila is the first song from Dan + Shay’s upcoming third album, which is the follow-up to 2016’s Obsessed. The album is expected to be released early this year, as Dan + Shay teased to us when we spoke to them ahead of their KOKO Camden show in London last November.
Dan + Shay have just been announced as guests on Rascal Flatts’ summer Back to Us tour alongside breakout artist Carly Pearce.
