Indie Americana group Carousel have released their latest single, Don’t Let It Die, via Longcroft Recording.
The rock-influenced track features driving drums and plenty of twang, with a singalong chorus and the band’s trademark lush harmonies. It’s a catchy, uptempo tune with plenty of passion and energy, and will appeal to fans of bands such as The Wandering Hearts.
The band explains: “Don’t Let It Die was written as an open letter to creative minds. Within the lyrics, we wanted to encapsulate the feeling of being inspired but misunderstood, as many of us artists are. Equally, we felt the need to reiterate how important art is to society. It is so crucial that art plays its part in people’s lives in times of political and social struggle, that they welcome it in and find some respite within.”
Alongside the release of the single, Carousel have also announced their debut headline tour. They’ll play eight dates at venues across the UK in September and October, including London, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.
Based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex – which is also home to UK country stars Holloway Road – Carousel formed in 2015. The band made up of Thomas Eatherton (vocals, electric guitar), Chris Hobart (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass), Sarah Holburn (vocals, mandolin, harmonium) and Toby Shaer (fiddle, cittern, vocals). Their style draws on Americana, country, rock’n’roll, folk and roots influences, with inspirations including the likes of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash and The Lone Belllow.
Carousel released their first EP in 2017 to critical acclaim from outlets including Maverick Magazine, RnR Magazine and The Mighty. They’ve also been featured on BBC Introducing in Essex’s Sound of 2018 and were named as New Artist of the Year by Laurel Canyon Music, as well as picking up EP of the Year.
So far in 2018, Carousel have supported The Oh Hellos on their UK tour and seen their single Porcelain reach over 100,000 streams on Spotify. They’ve also performed at festivals around the country, including Cambridge Folk Festival, Beautiful Days and Black Deer.
