High Valley interview

High Valley will make their European live debut as part of C2C: Country to Country, which kicks off in the UK next week.

The brothers – Brad and Curtis Rempel – are currently riding high in the US with their debut major label single Make You Mine. Their debut album is expected later this year and it’s safe to say that expectations are pretty high.

We caught up with High Valley to talk about their upcoming C2C appearance, find out more about their single Make You Mine, and discuss how the band came to be.

Hi guys. How are you today? Where does this Q&A find you?

We’re in North Carolina. It’s a beautiful day and we sure can’t complain.

Your single Make You Mine is out now. What was the inspiration behind the track?

Make You Mine is the song that summarises our musical upbringing. We always had tons of harmony and acoustic instruments in the house as kids. Make You Mine feels like a combination of the music we grew up on and the stuff we love today!

The single marks your major label debut. After all of your years of hard work how does it feel to be signed to Atlantic Records?

We’re pumped to have a major record deal. We wouldn’t trade the years that we’ve been working as an independent artist, but it sure is exciting to partner with a major label!

Why did you decide that Make You Mine was the perfect lead single for your forthcoming album?

We sent out tons of demos to all the members of our fan club. They let us know which songs they loved. Almost everyone chose Make You Mine as their favourite. That made it an easy decision for single.

What can your fans expect from your album? Is it going to be a progression of your sound or are you trying out some new things?

Fans can expect us to stay true to the roots and acoustic and harmony driven country songs. That being said, we like to surprise people and blur the lines of musical genres just a little bit.

High Valley started off as a trio and included your brother Bryan. How much did his departure change you as a band?

Bryan is up north in our hometown raising his kids in the same place we were raised. There’s something really special and honest about that. He’s happy and we’re happy and that’s what matters the most.

Where did the name of the band come from?

I (Brad) did a fake radio show on my cassette recorder as a little kid. News, weather, sports, I did it all. The band was always High Valley so the name just stuck.

Youā€™ll be performing at C2C: Country to Country in the UK in March. What can your fans expect from the performance?

Fans can expect us to bring as much energy as possible. And we’ll probably have huge smiles on our faces because this is our first ever trip to Europe.

Do you have any plans to come back to the UK for a headline tour?

We want to meet as many fans as possible and create a need to return ASAP.

What else is coming up for High Valley in 2016?

We’re playing tons of fairs and festivals in the US and Canada. Whenever we have anytime off we’re recording our debut Warner / Atlantic record so it’s a really busy year!

High Valley’s single Make You Mine is available now. The band will be performing at this year’s C2C: Country to Country, which takes place from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th March 2016. Watch the music video for Make You Mine below:
