Author, model, influencer, Kristina Bazan now dedicates herself to music. In May 2018, the young artist became the first Music Beauty Talent for Yves Saint Laurent Beauty. This year she performed in Paris and during the world famous Cannes Film Festival for Live Nation. Her first EP is being released this October. I got a chance to get to know the young singer songewriter a little better. Keep reading to find out more.
You have a single out, could you tell me about it?
Yes, VR is a song I am so happy and excited by. It’s a song I actually wrote this summer thinking about how our generation today deals with online dating and relationships in general. We are so used to instant satisfaction with the online world and the opportunities it gives us to connect with people from around the world. We consume everything so quickly and it influences our approach to human interactions. So I imagined this night club, where people could go to escape their day and meet seductive characters in VR that would give you this “senseless turn-on” without the issues of attachment or care, or effort, or commitment. You just get what you need out of it and that’s it. There is a really thin line between reality and illusion as long as it makes you feel something, doesn’t it?
Can you describe your creative process? When do you feel most inspired?
My creative process varies… I can inspired by truly anything. But I’d say what moves me most is cinema. I want my songs to be like mini-movies telling different stories. So I lot of the subjects, themes, moods that have inspired this album came from movies I love, like Mulholland Drive for example from David Lynch, Clockwork Orange by Kubrick or even The Matrix… I love absurd, abstract stories where everyone can make what they want out of it. So when I song write it really starts with this one vision, that in my mind looks like a movie scene. And I try to imagine what would be the sound playing at that moment, what would the words say, what would be the general vibe and rhythm. Sometimes it can start with one word too, or with a few notes on the piano. It all varies.
Do you have any rituals before live shows?
Not particularly. For me to be comfortable on stage is a lot about actually about getting into a certain headspace where nothing else matters. And I am just so happy and grateful to be able to do music that it’s really easy for me to get there, I get nervous of course, but excitement definitely takes over it.
What else can we expect from you this year (album, EP, tour)?
I hope to tour as soon as possible! I am quite impatient aha. I also cannot wait for the release of the album next year. It’s a big step in my life. If I told this to my 8 year old self, she would be so proud… Who knew. No matter what happens or how the audience receives it, for me, just to be able to put out a solid compound of work like this that took me so many years to nurture is already such a beautiful accomplishment and the experiences and memories around it, the people I got to work with, the beautiful relationships that grew out of it, make me even prouder and happier. What I’d like for people actually is to have no expectations, to kind of give me a new, clean, empty slate and allow me to tell a new story.
