Runaway June talk about their empowering new single Buy My Own Drinks

All-female trio Runaway June make their UK live debut at C2C: Country to Country later today. Before they took to the Spotlight Stage, two members Naomi Cooke and Jennifer Wayne sat down with press.

Naomi and Jennifer started writing together, which became the origin of Runaway June. Once they had some songs under their belt Jennifer brought in Hannah Mulholland as the group’s third member.

Jennifer revealed that it took 10 years of hard work to get a record deal, joking that the band is often referred to as an overnight success. With so much emphasis on female artists struggling to get radio play in the US, Runaway June have become role models for women.

“Our songs are really empowering for everyone, not just men,” Jennifer said.

When asked how they focus on stage Naomi admitted that it was “like being in a bubble”. She added, “it’s the most rewarding part of what we do.”

Jennifer continued, “we’re connected on stage. We joke that we answers questions the same way.”

Discussing their current single Buy My Own Drinks, Naomi said, “This is our second song to get into the Top 25. It’s about discovering your inner strength and making yourself happy from the inside out.”

Runaway June perform at C2C in London at The O2 Arena later today.
