Ruen Brothers – siblings Henry and Rupert Stansall – have released their first single All My Shades of Blue.
The track is the title track from their forthcoming album, which was produced by Rick Rubin and features Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) on drums, Dave Keuning (The Killers) on strings and Ian McLagan (Faces/Small Faces) on keyboards.
Rick Rubin explains, “I liked that their songwriting seemed like it was from another era… The idea was, what would a modern album with Roy Orbison and The Everly Brothers produced by Phil Spector sound like?”
Drummer Chad Smith adds, “I was struck by their authenticity… and the songs were great.”

The Ruen Brothers were inspired by their father’s love of music and grew up listening to The Rolling Stones and Van Morrison. They hail from Sunthorpe and caught the attention of Zane Lowe and Rubin with an early track that they recorded in their flat.
All My Shades of Blue was recorded in Los Angeles at Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios. Henry plays acoustic guitar and Rupert plays electric and acoustic guitar and bass on the record.
Henry comments, “The album was recorded using all real instruments and a live band, resulting in a different sound than what’s present in much of today’s popular music.”
Adds Rupert of the collaboration, “It was incredibly exciting… Rick has worked with some of our favorite artists of all time and is such a versatile producer. He helped us recognize the strength of Henry and I playing and singing together; it was a foundation to build upon and the guidance we needed.”
