Rob Mayes has become a star across the globe thanks to his roles in shows such as Mistresses and The Client List, and movies including Burning Blue and John Dies at the End.
Throughout his career, Mayes has made music and over the years he’s released a number of tracks. He’s also incorporated music into a number of his roles but now he’s ready to take the leap as he embarks on a new career path as a Country artist.
Having spent a lot of time in Nashville over the past couple of years, Mayes is ready to make his debut with the track Closer. Written by Mayes with Kevin Leach and Ryan Rossebo, Closer is a song about wanting a crush to turn into something more. We’ve all been there right?
You may go into listening to Closer with an air of scepticism due to Mayes being primarily known, until now, as an actor. One listen to the track will get rid of those doubts and prove that Mayes is the real deal.
The track is on trend with what’s currently dominating the Country charts in the US and it has all the makings of being a huge radio hit. The subtle instrumentation on the verses allows Mayes’ deep drawly tone to shine before song opens up into one hell of a catchy chorus, and Smith Curry’s steel pedal prowess really adds to the track. The song is upbeat, feel-good and definitely summer-ready.
Unlike many actors that have made a move into music, Mayes has the chops to actually make a mark. He’s a gifted singer and he gets to showcase his range over the course of the song. There’s a little falsetto in there and you can hear the power in his belt in the final moments.
