C2C: Country to Country 2018 – Russell Dickerson Spotlight Stage live review

It’s been a very busy weekend for Russell Dickerson at C2C: Country to Country 2018. Marking his first time at the festival, Dickerson has been performing all over The O2, culminating in a performance on the Spotlight Stage inside The O2 Arena, Fresh from his performances on the Late Night stage on Saturday night and his BBC Radio 2 Stage show earlier in the day, Dickerson performed a three-song acoustic set.

First up was Every Little Thing and having heard it with a full band last night, it was interesting to hear it stripped-down. Dickerson’s voice really shined over the acoustic guitar and he sounded really strong. Having started off the festival a little on the fence about him, I have to say he’s definitely winning me over with his passion, his music and his energy.

The second track was current single Blue Tacoma, a song that prompted a singalong last night. The audience sang along again today and the track showcases his knack for a strong melody. I wouldn’t be surprised if Blue Tacoma follows Yours and hits the top of the charts.

For his final song, Dickerson picked Yours. After taking four years to reach number one, Yours is song that has transformed Dickerson’s life and career. It’s not hard to see why; the lyrics are relatable, the melody is strong and Dickerson delivers it with passion. I’ve heard the song hundreds of times, yet I still enjoy it and the acoustic version was pretty special.

I think Dickerson has had a bit of a breakthrough over the course of the weekend. He’s pulled strong crowds for every performance and he’s definitely delivered the feel-good factor. The C2C crowd have absolutely loved him this weekend and the Spotlight Stage performance topped off a stellar weekend for him.
