C2C: Country to Country 2018 – Russell Dickerson Late Night Stage live review

Following his headline performance at Nashville Meets London last summer, Russell Dickerson has put a real focus on building a fan base here in the UK. Around a year ago he was relatively unknown but now thanks to the huge success of his single Yours, he’s steadily building something on this side of the pond. Ahead of his performance on the Spotlight Stage today, Dickerson took to the Late Night Stage at C2C: Country to Country 2018 last night.

I’ll admit that when I saw Dickerson at Nashville Meets London I thought he gave a solid performance but there was something missing for me. Last night he stepped things up and he threw what can only be described as one of the best parties at C2C yet this year. Despite being on pretty late, he drew a good crowd and he wasted no time in getting things going with album track Twentysomething.

The crowd danced from the word go and Dickerson’s energy was pretty impressive. He twirled around on stage, indulged in some light head-banging and grinded and shimmied his way across the stage. He was feeling the music so much you couldn’t help but feel it with him, and the atmosphere was pretty electric. Every Little Thing, one of the best tracks on Yours, was an early highlight but it was when he sung That’s My Girl, a song he co-wrote with Florida Georgia Line, that’s when the party really kicked into action. A lengthy singalong section with the crowd took place at the end of the song and Dickerson looked pretty overwhelmed by the response.

MGNO (My Girl’s Night Out) was mixed in with a bit of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Blue Tacoma, Dickerson’s latest single, was a real hit with the crowd again prompting a huge singalong session. I have to admit even I was singing at the top of my lungs by this point, which was remarkable considering I was half asleep when I arrived for the show.

The set ended with Yours and the song sounded absolutely magnificent. The crowd knew every word, Dickerson delivered it with conviction and passion, and it was fitting end to a very lively and enjoyable set.

Last night Dickerson really clicked with me as a live performer. He’s the kind of artist you want to whip a crowd into a frenzy and he certainly did that. With limitless energy and a solid collection of songs, Dickerson brought his A game and I’m already looking forward to seeing him supporting Darius Rucker on his UK tour later this year.
