C2C: Country to Country 2018 – Little Big Town live review

The UK can’t get enough of Little Big Town. The chart-topping best-selling Country band have been over to this side of the pond plenty over the last few years. I realised as I watched them last night I’d seen them 5 times since 2013, not bad going! Little Big Town have performed at C2C: Country to Country twice before and they kicked off the launch party for the 2016 event. They were last here in October when they performed at Royal Albert Hall, which also was the place where they announced their headline C2C set.

Last night Little Big Town headlined the third and final day at C2C in London. I was expecting them to do a similar set to the one they did at the Royal Albert Hall last year but they didn’t, which was a nice surprise. Opening the set with a cover of Elton John’s Rocket Man, Little Big Town immediately captivated with their vocals. Regardless of what you think of the band, no one can deny they are the finest singers in Country music and their harmonies are out of this world.

The set list featured selections from across their extensive catalogue. Fan favourite Pontoon was early on in the set and Little Big Town used that song to make sure the party started in the right way. During the rowdy Little White Church, the band exited the Main Stage and walked through the crowd to the Spotlight stage. Once there they performed acoustic versions of Bring It On Home, Sober and Your Side of the Bed. They finished that segment with a cover of Glen Campbell’s Wichita Lineman and they sounded absolutely stunning.

They returned to the Main Stage after that to perform I’m With the Band mashed up with The Beatles’ With A Little Help From My Friends. In the background the video screens showed footage from their career, with some footage fans have probably never seen before. It really captured the special chemistry and relationship Little Big Town has. It was hit after hit from that point on with Better Man, Tornado and Day Drinkin’ getting the crowd rowdy and on their feet.

For their encore Little Big Town performed the fantastic Girl Crush, a song that I’m pretty sure I’ll never tire of hearing, and Boondocks. As the set came to an end the band was greeted with deafening applause and the love for them was clear in The O2 Arena. It’s no surprise they come over as often as they do!

Little Big Town always put on a spectacular show and they delivered once again last night. Vocally tight with an incredible catalogue of songs, they truly are one of the best band’s in Country music. They were the perfect choice to end a fantastic weekend on. Every time they leave the stage, I can’t wait to see them again and I have a feeling it won’t be long until they’re touring the UK once again.
