Blake Shelton & Oak Ridge Boys bring real Country to 2016 CMT Music Awards

Last night’s 2016 CMT Music Awards brought a little controversy with Country music fans taking to social media to complain about the lack of real Country music during the show.

Fans did however appear to unite when Blake Shelton performed accompanied by the The Oak Ridge Boys, citing the performance as one of the few real moments of proper Country all night. Shelton performed his song Doing it to Country Songs, which appears on his latest album If I’m Being Honest and features The Oak Ridge Boys, which then turned into The Oak Ridge Boys’ 1981 hit Elvira.

The performance was full of energy and the audience lapped it up, especially when Shelton and The Oak Ridge Boys started singing Elvira. The camera panned to the audience and Luke Bryan was seen on his feet, dancing and singing along.

Shelton picked up the award for CMT Social Superstar fending off tough competition from the likes of Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett.
