2016 CMT Music Awards: our predictions

The 2016 CMT Music Awards take place tonight and will air live from Nashville for Country fans in the US.

Ahead of the awards, we’ve put together our predictions as to who we think will win in each category. The competition is fierce this year and it’s going to be interesting to see who walks away with what.

Keeping reading to find out who is nominated and who we think will be walking away with an award…

Video of the Year

Blake Shelton – Sangria
Cam – Burning House
Carrie Underwood – Smoke Break
Chris Stapleton – Fire Away
Florida Georgia Line – Sippin’ On Fire
Jason Aldean – Tonight Looks Good On You
Keith Urban – John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16
Little Big Town – Girl Crush
Luke Bryan – Strip It Down
Sam Hunt – Break Up In A Small Town
Thomas Rhett – Die A Happy Man
Tim McGraw – Humble and Kind

Who will win? We predict the award will go to Little Big Town. Girl Crush is one of the biggest hits of the past year and Little Big Town have never been more popular than they are right now. We’d love to see the group rewarded for their huge success, especially as Girl Crush is such a great song with a stunning video.

Male Video of the Year

Blake Shelton – Sangria
Eric Church – Like A Wrecking Ball (From 2015 CMT Music Awards)
Keith Urban – John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16
Luke Bryan – Kick The Dust Up (From 2015 CMT Music Awards)
Sam Hunt – Break Up In A Small Town
Thomas Rhett – Die A Happy Man

Who will win? Thomas Rhett. If Thomas Rhett doesn’t walk this category we’ll eat our hats. Die a Happy Man has been a huge track for Rhett and it’s firmly transported him into the big time. The song is still hugely popular now despite being on the charts for months and months.

Female Video of the Year

Cam – Burning House
Carrie Underwood – Smoke Break
Jana Kramer – I Got The Boy
Kacey Musgraves – Biscuits
Kelsea Ballerini – Dibs
Maren Morris – My Church

Who will win? Carrie Underwood. We’d like to see Cam walk away with this one for her stunning simple Burning House video but we have a feeling the Carrie Underwood will get the prize for Smoke Break. Both videos are beautifully shot but Carrie’s popularity will likely seen her clinch this one.

Group/Duo Video of the Year

Brothers Osborne – Stay A Little Longer
Dan + Shay – Nothin’ Like You
Florida Georgia Line – Sippin’ On Fire
Little Big Town – Girl Crush
Old Dominion – Break Up With Him
Zac Brown Band – Loving You Easy

Who will win? Florida Georgia Line. It could be a second win for Little Big Town but we think it’s more likely that Florida Georgia Line will walk away with this one for their cinematic video Sippin’ On Fire. The video looks stunning and the desert setting is certainly breathtaking.

Breakthrough Video of the Year

Brothers Osborne – Stay A Little Longer
Cam – Burning House
Chris Janson – Buy Me A Boat
Chris Stapleton – Fire Away
Maren Morris – My Church
Old Dominion – Break Up With Him

Who will win? Maren Morris. If there’s one new artist that’s on everbody’s lips right now it’s Maren. The road trip feel of the video combined with the strength of the song could easily see it claim victory tonight.

CMT Performance of the Year

Adam Lambert and Leona Lewis – Girl Crush (From 2015 CMT Artists of The Year)
Brantley Gilbert and Lynyrd Skynyrd – What’s Your Name (From CMT Crossroads)
Carrie Underwood – Smoke Break (From CMT Instant Jam)
Cheap Trick and Jennifer Nettles – I Want You To Want Me (From CMT Crossroads)
Chris Stapleton – Nobody To Blame (From CMT Artists of the Year)
Darius Rucker – Alright (From CMT Instant Jam)

Who will win? Chris Stapleton. Every time Chris opens his mouth to perform live, pure magic comes out. He’s an incredible live artist and thoroughly deserves to win this category.

CMT Social Superstar

Blake Shelton
Brett Eldredge
Jake Owen
Kelsea Ballerini
Lindsay Ell
Thomas Rhett

Who will win? Brett Eldredge! No one is as entertaining on social media as Brett Eldredge. The star uses social media as an extension of his promotional tools and he’s an absolute hoot to watch. No one is as epic on social as Brett. No one!
