Madam Secretary 3×03 South China Sea preview

The latest episode of Madam Secretary, Elizabeth (Téa Leoni) had to deal with a regime change in Algeria.

The episode began with Henry (Tim Daly) watching a video of terrorist group Hizb al-Shahid destroying priceless antiques in an Algerian museum. Henry was furious and wanted something to be done.

The U.S. Ambassador to Algeria was due to help bring peace to the country but had resigned. He wasn’t happy at President Dalton (Keith Carradine) running as an independent. He later went home and dropped dead while ranting to his wife.

This began an international crisis with the President of Algeria refusing to transfer power to his successor. He accused the U.S. of killing the Ambassador and had his successor hung in front of Elizabeth.

Elizabeth returned immediately to the U.S. and worked on a way to save the situation. Meanwhile Henry worked to secure funding to help save some religious statues. Eventually Elizabeth came up with a plan and returned to Algeria. She met in secret with General Cherat and had him take over as President.

Elsewhere in the episode, the McCord children were given their own security guards. Elizabeth and Henry decided not to tell them the real reason for it so said it was due to the upcoming election.

As extra precaution they also requested all electronic devices so that they could be checked for breaches. Everyone complied apart from Jason who refused to give up his security code.

Eventually they got him to give in and found he had been keeping a secret Instagram page with photos of him drinking alcohol with friends. As a result Henry grounded him for 2 months.

Later someone called SWAT to Jason’s school. They falsely reported that he was carrying a gun. It looks like whoever is stalking the kids aren’t going to give up.

At the end of the episode, Elizabeth arrived home to find Henry waiting for her. He had a report from the security saying that the SWAT call on Jason was untraceable. They also found a letter in Jason’s locker that threatened ‘We can get to your family at any time’. Henry decided that they needed to tell the kids what has been happening.

The next episode is South China Sea. Elizabeth struggles with the Chinese foreign minister as she lobbies for the release of environmentalists arrested on suspicion of being spies.
