In the latest episode of Madam Secretary, Murphy Station continued their mission to locate Jibral Disah.
Last episode the Pakistani people discovered that their Prime Minister had done a deal with the US to track their nuclear weapons. This didn’t go down well and the people attacked, and presumably killed, the Prime Minister. The US decided it was time to evacuate their embassy in Islamabad.
As the evacuation took place, Murphy Station tracked the location of Disah and decided to stay behind to get him. During the chaos on the streets, Murphy Station was able to track down his location.
Later they spotted a group of men leaving the location and were confident that Disah was with them. They called in a drone strike but had to wait three minutes for one to arrive. The vehicle suspected of transporting Disah was destroyed and he was presumed dead.
Murphy Station was forced to flee the scene on foot and came under fire. Jose was caught in the crossfire with a bullet to the chest. The team broke into a small supermarket while they waited for help and had to take the owner prisoner.
Jose found himself in difficulty as one of his lungs began to collapse. It was too dangerous to try and get him to a hospital or for one of the team to go. Instead Henry (Tim Daly) decided to trust the shop owner to go for them.
The owner agreed and came back with a doctor who managed to patch Jose up. Murphy station was then able to make their way to the extraction zone. There they were picked up and taken to safety by helicopter. Henry joked he might take some of his leave days when he got back.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Téa Leoni) and the rest of the US government were working hard on their Render Safe procedure. This was to make the Pakistani nuclear weapons safe before they could fall into the hands of terrorists.
They hit an initial snag when Russia refused to fulfill their role in the plan. However China was happy to help out and all nuclear arms from 11 of the 12 sites were quickly made safe.
The final site was reached first by Hizb al-Shahid. The US was able to determine that they would use a scientist from Moldova to rewire them. This information allowed Russia to help pinpoint their location and an operation was successfully carried out to intercept the warheads.
At the end of the episode Elizabeth asked a favour from the Russians to release Talia Petrov from prison. The Russians suggested a trade for a famous Russian spy called Peter Buckley. Elizabeth outright refused the deal but the Russians got her interest when they revealed that Dmitri Petrov is still alive!
The season finale is Vartius. When Elizabeth receives shocking news about an important political operative, she navigates a tricky political situation with President Dalton, who she learns may be considering replacing her as Secretary of State. Also, Stevie and Jareth (Christopher O’Shea) get engaged.
