Lethal Weapon 1×12 Brotherly Love preview

On the latest episode of Lethal Weapon, Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh’s (Damon Wayans) latest case involved the death of a Texas Ranger.

The episode opened up with a Texas Ranger transporting a prisoner from Texas to LA. On the way he was ambushed by two cars and forced to stop. He got out and was surrounded by four armed masked men. They made him put his gun down but then shot him to death when he went for a second one on his ankle.

Meanwhile, Riggs was spending some time in the park with his new dog. He was approached by two police officers because his dog was roaming free. He showed his badge but they still wrote him a ticket for his dog being off the leash, having no collar and no license. Nothing seems to bother Riggs and he just poked fun at their uniforms and bikes.

In the Murtaugh household, Trish (Keesha Sharp) practiced for her latest case with Roger while feeding the baby. He had to leave when the call came in about the dead ranger.

He met Riggs and Bailey (Michelle Mitchenor) at the scene. She confirmed the prisoner had been freed. At the morgue, Scorsese (Johnathan Fernandez) gave them his findings on the bullets. Texas Ranger Samuel Petry showed up to take the deceased’s body home.

Back at the precinct, they told Captain Avery (Kevin Rahm) it looked like an inside job. Avery told them they needed to find evidence but to be delicate about it.

Bailey and Cruz (Richard Cabral) went to the Sheriff’s Department to find out who had signed the transport route for the prisoner. They pointed them at a charity bowling event which most of the staff were attending.

Riggs and Murtaugh crashed the event and we discovered that Roger was a bit of a bowling legend. He had his photo on the wall for bowling a perfect 300 game. They spoke to the woman they were looking for and she told them some information about someone shooting a dog for talking.

Roger was confronted by one of the deputies over his claims at a perfect game. They didn’t believe him which upset Roger. A fight looked like it was to break out so Riggs took the opportunity to throw the first punch.

Meanwhile, Captain Avery was taken for a meal by Sheriff Reed. He gave Avery a warning to tighten the leash on Riggs and Murtaugh. He obviously had some dirt on Avery from the past.

Avery spoke to Riggs and Murtaugh about the bowling brawl and told them to be delicate and persistent with the investigation. They told him about the dog that was killed and the bullet matched those found in the ranger.

Avery arranged a meeting with Trish away from the office. She suspected he needed a lawyer. He explained the situation, that he had done something bad in the past when he was partnered with Roger. He also told her that Roger knew nothing about it.

Riggs and Murtaugh raided the house of one of the Deputy’s and Davies was inside. He ran off and Riggs gave pursuit. Before he could get to him Deputy Barton shot Davies dead. Riggs accused him of murder but he said it was self defence. As Roger arrived on the scene the Deputy who owned the house appeared behind them and Barton shot him dead too. He claimed he just saved their lives.

Back at the precinct, Riggs popped in to see Avery who was drinking scotch. Riggs asked if he could join him and Avery said he could, it made Riggs suspicious that it was some kind of test.

Over the drink, Avery confessed to what had happened in his past. He explained that a pedophile had raped a 10 year old girl but the evidence was compromised. To prevent him going free, Avery had planted some evidence which got the rapist convicted. Sheriff Reed knew about it. Riggs said Avery needed to tell Roger. He told Riggs to go after them and do it the right way.

Barton confronted Murtaugh to gloat about saving his life. He also said he was thinking of hiring Trish to get under Roger’s skin. Back home, Avery came round to see Roger and explained he hired Trish and also went through how he framed the rapist. Roger was furious as he likes to stay inside the law.

Avery said he wasn’t looking for forgiveness from Roger and that he would resign. Roger seemed happy about that. He was also annoyed at Trish for agreeing to represent Avery. They had a bit of an argument over it.

Riggs decided to camp in his truck outside Barton’s house. Barton came out and spoke to him and Riggs said he was just making sure he was safe. Barton gave a dig that Riggs had no family but he replied that the Murtaugh’s are his family and to stay away from them.

The next morning, when Barton left the house, Riggs broke in. He found the same bullets that were used in the recent shootings. Murtaugh was upset at Riggs for breaking in but Bailey was able to tie them to the guns used by Barton and Davies.

Captain Avery then didn’t show for work. He was out meeting Reed and got there early. Reed found him surrounded by shot glasses and looking pretty drunk. He had Reed admit to what had gone on and secretly recorded the conversation. The glasses only had apple juice in.

Back in his car, Avery smiled as he replayed the recording. Unfortunately Barton was hiding in the back, deleted them and kidnapped Avery. He took him to the house of the rapist he had convicted. He had recently been released from prison and wanted revenge.

As the rapist was about to execute Avery, Riggs and Murtaugh drove their car through the front of the house. The jumped out and shot most of the men to death. Avery grabbed a gun and shot the rapist, saving Roger’s life. Barton escaped but Riggs chased him down and gave him a beating before bringing him in.

Roger spoke with Avery who was planning to go public with his confession. Roger knew that doing so would put a question on all 400 plus criminals that they had convicted. They decide it’s best to not come clean and Avery should keep his job.

At the end of the episode, Murtaugh returned to the bowling alley to prove he can bowl a perfect game. He brought his favourite yellow bowling ball, Mayfield, for his attempt. Before he began he confessed to Riggs that he only bowled a 290.

Trish bet $1,000 that he’d bowl a 300. Then Riggs came in and bet $2,000. The episode ended as Murtaugh unleashed his first bowl which was a strike.
