On the latest episode of Homeland, Carrie (Claire Danes) waited to see if Dante (Morgan Spector) would wake up.
If you want to avoid spoilers for Homeland season 7, we suggest you stop reading now. If you don’t mind then please keep reading.
The episode opened up, with Carrie waiting in the hospital in the hope that Dante would pull through. When he eventually came around she convinced him that he had been poisoned by the lawyer and it must have been the Russians.
Dante was obviously torn about what to say and where his allegiances now lay. He gave a secret code phrase to Carrie, ‘Darwin loves Bitcoin’, that when posted on a particular Twitter account would signal the end of the Russian operation.
Meanwhile, Yevgeny (Costa Ronin) and Simone Martin (Sandrine Holt) were about to get on a private plane to leave the country. As they were about to board news arrived that Dante had gone missing. Martin said it wasn’t like him but Yevgeny decided he must have gone to ground. He told Martin to get on the plane while he went back to find Dante. She wasn’t happy but couldn’t change his mind.
Saul (Mandy Patinkin) took the news to President Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) and they decided to go ahead with the plan. They had a backdoor to Twitter’s servers in Ireland that they could use to post the tweet to the correct account.
Keane and Wellington (Linus Roache) couldn’t decide what to do about Senator Paley (Dylan Baker) who was using the situation to his advantage. He was telling the world that it looked like the government had disappeared Martin. Saul had a suggestion to bring Payley into the loop. He felt it was the best course of action and that once Payley had all the facts about what was going on he would understand. It was a risk but everyone agreed to try it.
As Yevgeny made the journey back to DC he was ordered by Moscow to turn around and get back on the plane. He refused until he knew what had happened to Dante. He received a call from an associate called Clayton (Thomas G. Waites) who had found out that Dante had been arrested and was in the hospital. Clayton went inside to scout the hospital out while he waited for Yevgeny.
Saul had Clint (Peter Vack) get ready to unleash the tweet. His team pointed out that there was a chance Dante was lying and they had no way of knowing what would happen. They decided they had no choice but to try. As the tweet went out it became apparent that Dante was telling the truth. The Russian network began to shutdown and Saul’s team were able to identify them as they did.
Yevgeny requested help from Moscow to access the hospital to get to Dante but he was told to stand down. He again refused and met with Clayton. In order to create a distraction, Yevgeny shot Clayton, covered himself in blood and pulled him inside. In the commotion, Yevgeny stole an ID card and managed to get to Dante’s room.
Dante awoke to find Yevgeny sat next to him and was immediately worried for his life. Yevgeny reassured him that he was fine and that it wasn’t the Russian’s who had tried to poison him. Yevgeny told Dante to call Carrie to see if she’s telling the truth. He did and realised she was lying but decided to tell her that Yevgeny was with him. Yevgeny grabbed a pillow and put it over Dante’s face.
Carrie was at the school trying to take Franny but left her after the call from Dante. In her rush to leave she almost reversed over Franny.
Elsewhere in the episode, Carrie went to see her sister’s house and spoke to Bill (Mackenzie Astin). He explained that Maggie was meeting a lawyer to discuss taking custody of Franny.
At the end of the episode, Carrie appeared to be having some kind of breakdown. Almost killing her daughter was on her mind and then she started to see flashbacks of the deaths of Brody, Aayan and Quinn. As she rushed into the hospital someone was heard to say “He didn’t make it”. As she got to Dante’s room she saw a hallucination of herself stood with the dead body of Dante. The episode ended with Carrie asking herself “What did you do?”
