The episode opened up with Brett O’Keefe (Jake Weber) streaming his latest broadcast. He was talking about the suspicious timing of the death of General McClendon and pointing the finger at President Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel). It doesn’t matter that he didn’t have proof, his following has grown large enough that people will believe him.

Wellington (Linus Roache) told Keane that they needed to change the conversation. He told her his suggestion to release Saul and give him the position of National Security Advisor. He also told her they needed to release the 200 arrested officials for Saul to agree. They could then use the gesture to gain confidence in the public again.

Saul was surprised they agreed to his demands and wary of their motives. Wellington told him they needed to move forward and Saul agreed to take the position.

Carrie’s (Claire Danes) sister Maggie (Amy Hargreaves) saw Saul’s first speech on the TV and alerted her to it. Maggie’s husband Bill (Mackenzie Austin) was convinced that the release proved that Carrie had been wrong.

After his speech, Saul was given his first task. Keane wanted him in charge of the manhunt of O’Keefe. Saul wasn’t impressed but had no choice. He visited the scene where O’Keefe made his broadcast from last episode. There he found an angry mob who had attacked two police officers for helping O’Keefe. Saul used all his experience of persuasion and managed to get a location. He said he would talk to O’Keefe alone.

As requested by Maggie, Carrie paid a visit to a psychiatrist. They chatted and Carrie tried to explain things. It all sounded a little crazy and the psychiatrist wasn’t convinced there was no issue. They talked about her credit card debt, recent hotel bills and Quinn’s death. Carrie assured her that she was taking her meds but the psychiatrist put doubt in her mind by telling her the lithium might no longer be as effective as it was.

Back home, Carrie checked in on her spy cameras to see what Wellington was up to. She spotted an unknown woman (Sandrine Holt) leaving a note in his home. Desperate to know more Carrie reached out to Dante (Morgan Spector) for help identifying the woman but he refused and hung up, still annoyed about the forced meeting.

Not one to give up, Carrie anonymously posted an image of the woman on 4Chan. She asked if anyone knew who she was. Later she received a reply, claiming to know the woman’s identity. Distracted by Franny, Carrie clicked on a file and found her laptop infected with ransomware. It encrypted her files and demanded a payment of $5,000 to unlock them.

Carrie called Max (Maury Sterling) to fix it but there was nothing he could do. The hacker behind the malware was listening to them via the laptop microphone. He spoke to them remotely, using a voice scrambler to disguise his identity, and requested Max leave. When Carrie said she couldn’t pay the hacker doubled the ransom.

Later Carrie tried to talk to the hacker again and he doubled the ransom once more. He had looked through her files and realised the sensitivity of them. She tried lying that Wellington paid her to watch him and said he got off on it.

It didn’t work so she changed tactics and removed the tape covering her laptop camera. She suggested some kind of arrangement instead and gave the hacker a topless show. Once he was interested she stopped and said he’d only get more at a face to face meet. It was a dangerous plan but she was desperate.

Later, Carrie drove to the location of her meet and was guided by the hacker over the phone. He had her leave her bag in the car and directed her to the abandoned warehouse he was using. There he got her to set her phone down before he came out in person.

He demanded that Carrie undress and she pretended she needed help as her top was stuck. He approached behind her and then she headbutted him, breaking his nose. She then grabbed an extending baton from her boot and beat him badly. He begged her to stop and complained it hurt.

Carrie grabbed his laptop and demanded he unlock her laptop. She filmed him while he unlocked it. Before leaving, she gave him a final beating then falsely told him she was CIA and that she would kill him if he messed with her again. She took his laptop with her.
