In the year 2060 humans invent an Anti-Gravity Drive which they use to power the vehicles for a new racing sport. Aliens from allover the galaxy head to Earth to take part in the competition which is AG Drive.
AG Drive is inspired by titles such as Wipeout and F-Zero. The action here is all about racing.
Thanks to the Anti-Gravity Drives on your racing vehicle the tracks on offer are absolutely insane. Taking place high above the cities below they are full of twists, turns, loops and jumps. Some parts of the track are walled but others are open allowing you to fall if not careful.
As you race your turbo boost charges up ready to use on demand. Choosing when to do so can be key to winning a race or finishing off the podium. The tracks are also littered with boost pads so you need to look ahead and plan your racing line to meet them if you don’t want to find yourself at the back of the pack.
You start off with the slowest and most basic racer on offer. As you win events you can spend money to upgrade and buy better racers.
AG Drive has a nice variety of event on offer. There’s the standard finish in the top 3 race. Elimination races where the last placed runner is knocked out every 20-seconds. Head-to-head races against a single opponent. Finally there are speed and point trials where you are going for the fastest speed or highest points score.
Graphically the game looks gorgeous with detailed city environments and skyboxes. There’s a real sense of speed and the tracks fly by at silky smooth 60fps. Races are tense affairs and you really have to concentrate if you want to do well. If you’re not one for heights be prepared to feel a little queasy as the tracks race you into the skies, flip you around and then hurtle back towards the ground.

Touching the right side of the screen acclerates your racer and the left side is used to brake. Steering can be done with on-screen buttons but the best way to play is with the accelerometer allowing you to tilt your device instead. The tilt controls work beautifully and you always feel in control.
As a racer AG Drive does what it sets out to achieve and it is brilliant fun. It’s best in short sessions as it can become a little repetitive after a while. Also it’s single-player only which is a shame as multi-player races could have really made it shine.
If you enjoy racing titles and are a fan of games like F-Zero and Wipeout then AG Drive is not to be missed.
