OnLive and Extra Life offer free day of gaming

OnLive, the leader in cloud gaming, is teaming up with Extra Life to save children’s lives through video gaming. To help Extra Life prepare for its 7th annual Game Day event on October 25th—a 24-hour gaming marathon to raise money for 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America —OnLive is hosting its own CloudPlay for a Cause day of free gaming on October 9th.

Gamers across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are invited to play any and all 250+ OnLive PlayPack games absolutely free on the OnLive Game Service, from 12:01 AM PST, October 9th to 11:59 PM PST, October 9th, 2014. Anyone who registers for Extra Life and joins the OnLive Team will not only raise money to help sick or injured children, but also be rewarded for their fundraising efforts with prizes from OnLive and a chance to win additional prizes from partners such as Nordic Games, Mad Catz and WikiPad. Each fundraising level unlocks a bigger reward as players raise more money for kids.
We’re excited to team up with Extra Life and gaming enthusiasts everywhere to truly make a difference for these kids and their families. Our hope is to rally awareness and participation for Extra Life in advance of their Game Day marathon by offering free gaming and multiple tiers of rewards to anyone who joins in and games for the cause. And we’re thrilled that our partners are joining forces with us to help maximize our impact for these kids.
The OnLive Game Service enables premium-quality gaming via the cloud on nearly any Mac or PC computer and a wide range of thin client devices, including lightweight laptops, Android tablets, phones and TVs—platforms that would normally lack the processing power and memory to run graphics intensive games. During the CloudPlay for a Cause day of free gaming, OnLive will open the gates to its PlayPack subscription bundle, allowing anyone to stream hundreds of popular games such as Batman: Arkham City, Saints Row: The Third and Darksiders II directly to their devices for instant play.

Donations made through Extra Life are tax-deductible, and 100% of the proceeds go to help kids. Participants can choose which of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will receive their donations, enabling them to support their local hospital or a hospital that has made a difference in the life of a child close to their hearts.

Extra Life was created by Jeromy ‘Doc’ Adams, a director at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, in 2008 to honor his friend Victoria Enmon, a 15-year-old Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals patient who played video games during her battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since then, tens-of-thousands of Extra Life participants have raised more than $8 million to benefit 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America, mostly by playing video and tabletop games. Sixty-two kids every minute are treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Many of these kids are facing life-threatening diseases like cancer, cystic fibrosis and injuries from accidents.

To take advantage of OnLive’s CloudPlay for a Cause day of free gaming on October 9th, users can simply create an OnLive account at http://games.onlive.com or http://onlive.co.uk for free, no credit card required, and start playing instantly.
