Game of Thrones 7×03 The Queen’s Justice recap

Game of Thrones returned for the third episode of the season. There’s no time wasting this season and things are moving on in big ways.

If you haven’t seen Game of Thrones season 7 episode 3 yet and don’t want anything spoiled then please stop reading now. If you are up-to-date and want to relive the action then keep on reading.

The episode opened up at Dragonstone where Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) had arrived to see Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). They were met on the shore by Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and a group of Dothraki.

As we know Tyrion and Jon have met before. Tyrion greeted Jon as the Bastard of Winterfell to which Jon replied the Dwarf of Casterly Rock. They are still on good terms and shook hands commenting they hadn’t seen each other since the Wall.

Missandei said that Dany appreciated their long journey and asked that they surrender their weapons. Jon reluctantly handed over Longclaw. Davos asked Missandei where she was from as he couldn’t place her accent and she said she came from Naath.

As they walked to the throne room, Davos commented to Jon that the place had changed. Tyrion asked after Sansa and said she was smarter than she let on. Jon said she was starting to let on. Tyrion pointed out that Stark men that travel south don’t fair well but Jon pointed out he wasn’t a Stark. Without warning one of the Dragons swooped down at them scaring them half to death.

Meanwhile, Melisandre (Carice Van Houten) watched the arrival from above. Varys (Conleth Hill) came to her to ask why she was hiding out of the way. She explained that she had made mistakes and left on bad terms.

She said her work there was done as she had brought Ice (Jon) and Fire (Dany) together. She planned to head to Volantis but told Varys she would return once more to die. He looked shocked and worried when she added ‘Just like you’.

In the Dragonstone throne room, Jon and Dany finally met! Dany was keen for Jon to bend the knee but he was having none of it which surprised and intrigued her. He explained that her father had burnt his family alive and she offered her forgiveness for the past.

She explained that she was born to rule and pointed out that their families had been allies for centuries and that she would make him Warden of the North. Jon just wanted to agree to help each other and said she was better than Cersei (Lena Headey). He spoke of a threat she hadn’t considered, the army of the dead led by the Night King.

He wanted to band together to defeat the Night King and said there wasn’t time to waste. She struggled to believe there was an army of the dead and said if he wouldn’t bend the knee he was in open rebellion. Davos tried to stick up for Jon and was cut off when he started to talk about how Jon was stabbed through the heart.

The conversation ended when Varys popped in and whispered something. Dany sent Jon and Davos to rest. Jon asked if he was a prisoner and she replied ‘Not yet’. When they were gone, Varys explained how Euron (Pilou Asbæk) had attacked the Iron Born and Dornish fleet.

Later, Tyrion met Jon on top of a cliff overlooking the sea. Tyrion said Jon appeared to be better at brooding that he was. Jon wanted to leave but Tyrion offered to help. The conversation resulted in Tyrion asking Dany to let Jon mine the Dragonglass.

She later agreed and told Jon she would provide any resources he needed. He commented on her amazing dragons. He asked if she believe him about the army of the dead but she told him to get to work.

Elsewhere, Theon (Alfie Allen) was fished out of the water by some of his remaining men. They said his sister was dead but he told them that Euron had taken her.

At King’s Landing, Euron arrived to a hero’s welcome as he paraded Yara (Gemma Whelan), Ellaria (Indira Varma) and Tyene (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers) through the streets. He continued to taunt Yara by poking fun at Theon.

In the throne room, he presented Cersei with the gift of Ellaria and Tyene as justice for Myrcella. Ellaria spit towards Cersei. She told Euron he would have what his heart desired once the war was won.

In the dungeon, Cersei had Ellaria and Tyene chained and gagged. She asked Ellaria why she had taken her only daughter from her and spoke of Oberyn as the Mountain watched. Cersei kissed Tyene and explained that she had Qyburn make the same poison Ellaria used on her daughter. She would keep Ellaria there for the rest of her days to watch Tyene die.

Cersei then went to Jaime and seduced him before sleeping together. They were disturbed when a visitor from Braavos arrived. It was Iron Banker Tycho Nestoris (Mark Gatiss). He said the bank wanted their gold back as Cersei owed them a huge debt. She felt the bank was betting against her and explained how the Lannisters always paid their debts.

At Winterfell, Sansa (Sophie Turner) was taking charge while the creepy Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) followed her around. She was putting plans into place to increase the food stores and improve their armour. He commented that command suited her and suggested she play out all possibilities in her mind to prepare for everything.

Someone arrived at the gate and Sansa was called to see. It was Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Meera (Ellie Kendrick). Sansa couldn’t believe her eyes. Bran simply said ‘Hello’ and she embraced him.

They went to sit by the Weirwood tree where Bran tried to explain his creepy powers. She said he was the rightful Lord of Winterfell but he said he could never be as he was the Three-Eyed Raven now. He said he was sorry for what had happened to her.

At the Citadel, Archmaester Ebrose (Jim Broadbent) inspected a much improved Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen). He said that he had suddenly felt better and put it down to rest and the climate to try and keep Sam (John Bradley-West) out of trouble. Ebrose said the Greyscale infection was no longer active. He requested to see Sam later.

Sam and Jorah spoke about what would happen next. Jorah said he would return to Dany. Before he left the pair shook hands. Later, Ebrose pointed out that he knew Sam had treated Jorah. Sam admitted it and Ebrose said Jorah was alive because of Sam and he should be proud. He then set him a task of copying many old scrolls instead of a reward.

Back at Dragonstone, Dany wanted to go after Euron with her dragons. Meanwhile, the Unsullied, led by Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), began an attack on Casterly Rock. Tyrion spoke of the difficulties attacking it but explained how he had designed the sewer system. Grey Worm was able to use it to get inside and let his army in. Once inside, the Unsullied slaughtered every single Lannister solider they could find. However, they realised that the resistance and size of army was much less than expected.

That’s because Jaime had predicted the attack and was happy to let Casterly Rock go for now. He had learned from his past mistakes and did the unexpected, like Robb Stark previously did to him. He led an assault on Highgarden, destroying the Tyrell army.

Once inside he went to see Olenna (Diana Rigg) who spoke to him about Cersei. He explained some of the terrible suggestions Cersei had for Olenna but said he talked her out of them. Instead he brought poison and poured it into some wine. He said it was a nicer and painless death.

After drinking the poison, Olenna said for him to tell Cersei that it was she who had poisoned Joffrey and Jaime stormed out.
