    Hi- few things:

    1. It’s the second world war, towards the end, so 1945.

    2. One of the soldiers is introduced right at the start as purely there to film everything. Sure, artistic licence is probably taken a bit with the found footage thing, but have a look at genuine colour footage from ww ii.

    3. The soldiers are part of the Red Armies push back against a losing German army. This is also explained at the start. Mostly they are there to wipe out fortifications etc before the main force arrives. Or that’s what they think.
