So, The Quiller Memorandum doesn’t have a catchy theme, eh? Perhaps Mr Jameson was listening to an optional Serbo-Croatian soundtrack, but the theme I remember — Wednesday’s Child recorded by Matt Monro and a great international hit — was one of the most haunting and memorable themes written by the great John Barry, easily on a par with the best of his work. The reviewer may have a point about Pinter’s script, but on that score (no pun intended) he is wildly off the mark.

    1. Greg Jameson says:

Wednesday’s Child is a decent song, for sure (not a personal favourite), but the actual incidental music during the film is, for Barry, remarkably bland. In my view!

Did you watch the same Network BD release as I did? Doesn’t look like you did. The picture quality on my disc is not good at all. There seems to be a “strobing effect” in a lot of scenes which is very distracting. This has to be Network’s most disappointing BD release to date. 1 Star for the very sub standard picture quality.

Just found this review on another site which backs up my crap picture quality belief.

“Sadly, Network’s new Blu-ray release is much more disappointing – there’s more detail, but there’s also a LOT of digital noise, most noticeable in the film’s many night scenes where it swirls around like snow: on balance, I’d recommend sticking with their DVD and hoping that the film might get a better release in another territory the future.”
