Zac Efron’s Top 5 big screen appearances

Zac Efron is one of the hottest stars in the world with legions of fans around the globe watching his every move.

With the release of his new movie Bad Neighbours this weekend, Zac is going from strength-to-strength as he transitions from child star to respected adult actor. In Bad Neighbours Zac stars a frat boy who goes to war with his neighbours (Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen). Read our review of Bad Neighbours now.

To celebrate the release of the movie, we take a look at some of Zac’s big screen appearances to date.

5. High School Musical

Sure it was cheesier than a bag of extra-cheesy Wotsits but Disney’s High School Musical has plenty of charm and likability. The TV movie spawned two sequels and made Zac into a global star. Troy Bolton, Zac’s character, became a pin-up across the globe and really kickstarted Zac’s career.

4. Hairspray

Zac’s portrayal of Link Larkin in Hairspray may not have been a huge leap from his High School Musical character but it was a step in the right direction. The lively remake had plenty of energy with Zac stealing every scene he was in and nipping at the heels of A-listers John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer.

3. The Lucky One

Starring opposite Orange Is The New Black’s Taylor Schilling, Zac showed there was more to him than singing and cheesy dance routines. Sure the film may not have been perfect but we were pretty surprised by just how good Zac’s performance was in the movie.

2. The Paperboy

Under the guise of director Lee Daniels, Zac put in his most adult performance to date and danced in wet underpants with Nicole Kidman. Sounds like a winner to us! The film was bonkers but Zac held his own against Kidman, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack. Could an Oscar be in his future?

1. 17 Again

The film is essentially a remake of Tom Hanks’ classic Big but there’s a lot to love about it. Zac stars as the young Mike O’Donnell who appears after the older Mike (Matthew Perry) wishes he could go back to high school. Cue lots of comedy and a solid performance from Mr Efron that remains one of his most enjoyable.

Bad Neighbours is released in the UK on 3rd May 2014. Watch the trailer for the movie below:
