Young Leeds filmmaking duo meet Danny Boyle

Two young Leeds filmmakers have been given the chance to meet one of their heroes last week as they appeared on national television with Oscar winning director Danny Boyle.

Alfie Barker (16) and Lucy Bickerton (12) met the mastermind of the spectacular opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic games and the director of Slumdog Millionaire when they were guests on the BBC show The One Show.

They were joined by Jacob Crow (13) and had the chance to show their short films which have been shortlisted for awards at the Leeds Young Film Festival which started on 25 March to the director.

Looking back at the experience, Alfie Barker said, “It was brilliant to meet him, he’s a really friendly guy. He was happy to chat to us and he signed cards for us and wished us all good luck.”

Alfie is a rising star of the Leeds film scene, having won the overall title at last year’s event in the Leeds Young Filmmaker Golden Owl Awards. This year,he is competing in this years The Independent Directions Awards.

Lucy added: “I was shocked when I was told I was going on television and meeting Danny Boyle. I was really nervous but it was really exciting.” She also said that she couldnt wait for this year’s festival so that she could show her film.

This year’s festival started on Monday 25th March and continues to this Friday (5th April).
