To celebrate the release of Terry Gilliam’s forthcoming sci-fi feature film, The Zero Theorem, we decided to take a look at the most exceptional heroines in Sci-Fi, inspired by the unique and colourful Bainsley (played by the magnificent Melanie Thierry).
Set in a future London, The Zero Theorem stars double Academy Award® winner Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, an eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst. He lives in isolation in a burnt-out chapel, waiting for a phone call which he is convinced will provide him with answers he has long sought.
Qohen works on a mysterious project, delegated to him by Management (Matt Damon), aimed at discovering the purpose of existence – or the lack thereof – once and for all. But his solitary existence is disturbed by visits from the flirtatious Bainsley (Mélanie Thierry), and Bob (Lucas Hedges), Management’s wunderkind son. Yet it is only once he experiences the power of love and desire that he is able to understand his very reason for being.
Catch The Zero Theorem, out in cinemas on March 14.
Elizabeth Shaw, Prometheus
Not only is she an expert in archaeology and human mythology, Elizabeth Shaw is a strong and persistent young women who is the heart and soul of the Prometheus crew, intent on finding out where humans came from . Unlike her lover Charlie, Elizabeth does not lose determination even when her theories and ideas are challenged.
Sarah Connor, The Terminator 2
Far different from the Sarah Connor we saw in the first Terminator, the new Sarah is powerful, aggressive and crazy muscly in Terminator 2. Definitely a bad ass heroine to rival Arnie!
Ellen Ripley, Alien
Arguably one of the greatest female characters in cinema history, Ellen is a tough-talking, independent woman who you would not want to mess with!
Dana Scully, The X-Files
One of the most recognizable characters in sci-fi, Scully is the red-headed beauty who made everyone believe…
Nyota Uhura, Star Trek: The Original Series
Nyota is the one of the best multilingual lieutenants we see in Star Trek: The Original Series. It’s no surprise that she makes full commander over the course of the series. We have much respect for this badass beauty!
Princess Leia- Star Wars
Not only is she the twin sister to Luke Skywalker, romantic interest to Hans Solo but she’s also the daughter of Darth Vader (that would make for an interesting family Christmas!) She’s beautiful, strong and an excellent shot….bad guys be warned!
Catch Melanie in The Zero Theorem at cinemas from March 14.
