The Night Of The Hunter returns to cinemas

American masterpiece, The Night of the Hunter has been spectacularly restored and will be back in UK cinemas from 17 January 2014.

The Night of the Hunter tells the tale of self-appointed preacher named Powell. A sinister yet sensitive character, Powell travels to a small Southern town in search of the family, whose husband and father was recently imprisoned for stealing $10,000. Powell ingratiates himself with the family, marries the mother and attempts to find the hidden money.

Based on a novel by the same name (and adapted to screen by James Agee who also wrote the screenplay for The African Queen), The Night Of The Hunter stars Robert Mitchum in a career-defining role and the legendary movie now celebrates a stunning new print.

Hitting cinemas on Januray 17th 2014, The Night Of The Hunter will once again mesmerise audiences – a film that many consider to be a true unsung American classic.

The new restoration of MGM Studios’ The Night of the Hunter is opening at BFI Southbank, as part of the continuing Gothic season, and selected cinemas nationwide.
