Suicide Squad
What’s it about? The worst heroes ever – The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Enchantress, Killer Croc and more – are brought together by a secret government agency to execute dangerous black ops missions. This could well be a turning point for DC. After the disaster that was Batman v Superman earlier this year, they had a strong appearance at Comic-Con, with impressive previews for both Wonder Woman and Justice League. All of the early buzz for Suicide Squad is that it is fun and exciting (basically all the things BvS wasn’t). If this delivers, the DCEU could be well and truly back on track, which is most definitely something we all want. Whatever happens, expect Margot Robbie to steal the show as psychotic siren Harley Quinn.

The Carer
What’s it about? Brian Cox stars as Sir Michael Gifford, an ageing theatre star, famed for his legendary Shakespearean performances. Suffering from Parkinson’s, his family insist that he take on a carer to look after him. He ends up being cared for by Dorottya, a Hungarian refugee with acting aspirations of her own. Essentially playing an exaggerated version of himself, Cox’s wonderfully theatrical performance is the main attraction here.

Sweet Bean
What’s it about? This gentle Japanese drama tells the story of a man who runs a small dorayaki shop. Dorayaki are pancakes filled with An – the sweet bean paste of the title. When he advertises for a co-worker, he is approached by an elderly woman who makes the best An he has ever tasted. His little shop is soon the talk of the town. If you like your films to be heart-warming, emotional, leisurely paced, and featuring scenes of gratuitous food porn, then Sweet Bean is the film for you.

Up For Love
What’s it about? Oscar winning actor Jean Dujardin (remember him?) stars in this light and breezy French romantic comedy. Dujardin plays Alexandre, a man who finds the phone belonging to Diane (Virginie Efira), a lawyer going through a terrible breakup. Alexandre calls her to return the phone, and they immediately hit it off. He is charming and flirtatious, and she imagines tall, dark and handsome to boot. Well two out of three ain’t bad, because thanks to some special effects, the six-foot Dujardin is playing Alexandre as a rather more diminutive four-foot-five. Can Diane overcome her own prejudices, and societies standards to be with this man?
