Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin dead aged 27

Anton Yelchin, best-known for playing the role of Chekov in the big screen revival of Star Trek, has died aged 27 it has been confirmed.

The actor was involved in a freak accident that saw him pinned by his own car against his security gate. It is believed the car rolled backwards and struck him. Friends found him at his home dead after he’d failed to turn up for a rehearsal.

The news is sure to come as a shock to fans of the actor and his tragic death has occurred just as the new Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, is due to arrive in cinemas next month.

As well as his role in Star Trek, Yelchin was known for films including Odd Thomas, The Green Room and Like Crazy.

Since the news of his death broke last night, Yelchin’s Star Trek colleagues have taken to social media to pay tribute to the star.

Our thoughts go out to Yelchin’s family and friends at this difficult time. He was a very talented actor with a bright future ahead of him and this news is deeply upsetting.
