Solo: A Star Wars Story – 5 reasons why it will be amazing

Solo: A Star Wars Story is heading to cinemas everywhere on May 24th 2018 and excitement is building. With only a matter of weeks to go before release, we thought we’d look at a few reasons why we think it will be amazing.

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy.

Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo befriends his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

1. Alden Ehrenreich

Alden Ehrenreich is a great actor; it’s as simple as that. He has natural charm and charisma in bucket loads. The last trailer really gave forth a sense of him capturing the essence of Harrison Ford’s iconic portrayal of Han Solo. His accent seems spot-on too, and with the support of an amazing ensemble including Paul Bettany, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover and Woody Harrelson, Ehrenreich will be the best thing in the movie.

2. It’s a Space-Western

Plot details are scarce right now but the studio has described Solo: A Star Wars Story as being a space western. What’s not to love about that?! Solo has also been a character that strives on the conflict at hand so this set-up lends itself perfectly to the success of the character and the film as a whole. A space western will also provide lots of opportunity to dazzle us with action set-pieces. The last trailer showcased a few fantastic scenes that look like they’ll take our breath away.

3. Ron Howard

Granted, the departure of Phil Lord and Chris Miller was very unfortunate, especially given the timing. I would have loved to have seen a fully-realised Lord & Miller Solo movie but Ron Howard is a safe pair of hands. A lot of the final film that we will see onscreen come May 24th will be to their initial vision. Ron Howard does know how to do spectacle and he has a keen eye for a shot. He would have no doubt, brought the set back together after the high profile dismissals and got the vibe right again.

He might not be everyone’s cup of tea but Ron Howard has undoubted talent behind the camera… plus he might also throw in an Arrested Development gag for good measure like the Russo Brothers did in Avengers: Infinity War.

4. Star Wars universe films are better than the main movie strand

This is a controversial one, and we only really have one movie to go on, but Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is better than Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. There’s a freedom to the branch-away Star Wars movies that somehow lets them embrace the past whilst also delivering a solid and entertaining adventure in itself. The Clone Wars also proves this. In many ways, no-one really knows what to expect with Solo: A Star Wars Story so it will have to go a long way to disappoint the core fans.

5. Lando Calrissian

Donald Glover is a megastar on the rise and it looks like he could steal this film. The ad campaign has been superb in teasing all of the main characters but it’s Lando’s poster that raises the most expectation. Having consulted with screen legend Billy Dee Williams on his approach to the character, expect Glover to have some of the movie’s best lines and a swagger and charm to rival Han Solo himself.
