Papillon, starring Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), will be released in UK cinemas on 21st December 2018 by Signature Entertainment.
Based on the international best-selling autobiography by Henri CharriĆØre, Papillon follows the epic true story of Henri āPapillonā CharriĆØre (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in a notorious penal colony on Devilās Island.
Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek) who, in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillonās escape, ultimately resulting in a bond of lasting friendship.
Papillon is written by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) and executive produced by Danny Dimbort (The Wolf of Wall Street). It is Danish director Michael Noerās international feature debut.
Papillon is a modern take on one of the greatest escape films of all time which originally starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.
