Kate Winslet (Titanic), Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking) and Mi Wasikowska (Crimson Peak) have joined the cast of Roger Michell’s new film Blackbird.
The cast also includes Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Rainn Wilson (The Office) and Bex Taylor-Klaus (Hellfest), Lindsay Duncan (Birdman) and newcomer Anson Boon (The Alienist).
Blackbird is an English-language remake of Bille Augustās 2014 Danish-language film Silent Heart, penned by the original movieās screenwriter Christian Torpe. One family spanning three generations come together over a weekend to be with their terminally ill mother before she takes her own life. Her family willingly supports her decision to help her die with dignity, but her daughters begin to unravel a secret that could disrupt her wish to die peacefully and on her own terms.
Filming on Blackbird began earlier this week. Sherryl Clark (Busted Shark) is producing with Millenniumās David Bernardi. Millenniumās Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Jeffrey Greenstein and Jonathan Yunger are executive producers. The film is co-produced by Alice Dawson.
South African-born director and producer Roger Michell is known for Titanic Town (1998), Notting Hill (1999), Changing Lanes (2002), The Mother (2003), Venus (2006), Le Week-End (2013) and My Cousin Rachel (2017).
Blackbird’s crew also includes director of photography Mike Eley (The Selfish Giant, Grey Gardens), production designer J P Kelly (Stan & Ollie, The Theory of Everything), costume design by Dinah Collin (The Bourne Supremacy, Pride and Prejudice), and make-up and hair by Ivana Primorac (The Darkest Hour, The Crown). The film will be edited by Kristina Hetherington (Red Joan, My Cousin Rachel) and the post supervisor is Louise Seymour (The Death of Stalin, Mindhorn).
