The first details of the long-awaited sequel to Independence Day have been announced.
Titled Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel reunites members of the original cast including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch and Vivica A. Fox. New cast members for the sequel include Liam Hemsworth, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward.
Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
Independence Day: Resurgence is directed by Roland Emmerich and produced by Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser. It will be released in cinemas on 24th June 2016.
The release of the sequel comes 20 years after the original movie, which grossed over $800 million at the worldwide box office. Take a look at some images from the movie’s press conference:
