The classic spooky family comedy Hocus Pocus is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, would you believe?!
It’s crazy to think that the film, which debuted in cinemas back in 1993, is a quarter of a century old, but much like the witches (who were played so brilliantly by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy), they are due a timely return!
Zavvi, those purveyors of all things collectible and awesome, have a wonderful Hocus Pocus Steelbook available to pre-order now.
Celebrating the film, the Steelbook has the iconic poster art on the back cover (remember when film posters used to be good?!). The front cover has a great publicity picture of the three witches from the film’s original promotional campaign.
When you open up the Steelbook you’re greeted with the three witch sisters Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler), Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy) huddled around a cauldron.
The perfect preparation for a family Halloween, Hocus Pocus tells the story of three witch sisters who are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night. It’s up to two teenagers – new kid on the block Max (Omri Katz) and Allison (Vinessa Shaw) to team up with a little girl named Dani (Thora Birch) and an immortal cat to put an end to their reign of terror once and for all.
Omri Katz was best known for playing J.R. Ewing’s son John-Ross in Dallas. He stopped working in films and television in 2002 but he’ll always be remembered for the seminal spooky kids show Eerie, Indiana which ran for only 19 episodes in 1991-1992, but which remains a firm favourite among genre fans. Check out the series on DVD if you can, it’s a wonderful collection of weird and wonderful stories – kind of like a lite-version of The Twilight Zone.
And also, it’s much better than Goosebumps! There, I said it…!
