Ghostbusters
What’s it about? I can’t think of another film that has been subject to the sort of hate and scrutiny that Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot has had to endure since it was announced two years ago. You’d think he was remaking Citizen Kane, rather than a knockabout 80s comedy starring SNL cast members as professors of the paranormal. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that it is finally here, and generating mostly positive reviews. Not that it makes a jot of difference to the selfish, sexist idiot detractors who see the positive reviews as being part of some elaborate feminist conspiracy…….sigh. Anyway, you know what it’s about: scientists investigating a rise in paranormal activity in New York City team up to fight the supernatural threat. Expect plenty of laughs and a few good scares, unless of course, you know, you’re one of them.

Ice Age: Collision Course
What’s it about? I remember quite enjoying the first Ice Age film. Sure it was low budget animation, but the characters were funny, and the story was simple. Unfortunately they didn’t stop there, and in keeping with the law of diminishing returns have made a series of increasingly poor sequels. We’ve now reached the fifth film in the Ice Age saga. Scrat, the little squirrel beast is still trying to bury his precious acorn, when he accidentally activates a buried alien ship. He is then transported into deep space and inadvertantly sends a number of meteors on a collision course with earth, where the ever-expanding members of the herd must now try and avert this catastrophe. Let’s hope they fail and this franchise is finally made extinct.

Precious Cargo
What’s it about? Bruce Willis continues his downward spiral of churning out cheap action movie dreck at an alarming rate. His latest half-hearted effort, Precious Cargo, currently holds that rare honour of a 0% fresh rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The plot revolves around a heist gone wrong and the subsequent efforts of the thief to make things right with her dangerous boss (Willis). Don’t waste your money, this will be on VOD by next week.

Keanu
What’s it about? This action comedy from American comedy duo Key and Peele (Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele), sees them playing two ordinary men caught up in the crazy world of gangsters, ruthless drug dealers, and brutal violence. Why? Because someone abducted their cute kitten, Keanu. Years of working together in sketch comedy should ensure a great chemistry between the two leads, but the challenge will be taking this to a feature length film. The trailer looks a lot of fun though, Key and Peele are hilarious, and the kitten is the most adorable thing ever. Definitely worth a look if Ghostbusters aren’t your thing.
