The Internet is buzzing with the news that Ellen Page has come out this morning following her moving speech at the Time To Thrive conference in Las Vegas.
We applaud her bravery and support her decision to come out which is just another example of how the young actress continues to push boundaries in all aspects of her career and life. At only 26 years old, Ellen has packed in a lot and we’re sure she’s going to be a great LGBT role model.
To celebrate the news we’ve compiled a list of our 5 favourite Ellen Page movies.
5. The East
Taut crime-drama went under the radar when it was released despite having Ellen and True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard taking top billing with co-writer and star Brit Marling. Ellen played Izzy, one of the members of The East, the underground organisation that attacks corporations which lead character Sarah (Marling) infiltrates for a private intelligence firm.
4. Whip It
Perhaps the most under-rated of the films listed here, Whip It was the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore. Ellen played teenager Bliss Cavendar, a mis-fit who joins a roller-derby team. The movie was the perfect vehicle for Ellen’s comedic charm.
The mind-bending thriller saw Ellen play Ariadne, an architecture student who designed the labyrinth of the dream landscapes for Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio). The role was very different for Ellen and it paid off as she picked up an MTV Movie Award for her efforts.
2. Hard Candy
This was a stand-up and take notice performance as Ellen played teenager Hayley Stark who meets up with a man she suspects is a paedophile and uses unconventional techniques to get him to confess. It’s no wonder she picked up several awards for this.
The 2007 Diablo Cody movie is Ellen’s best to date. She picked up a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the titular character. This is the movie that really broke her through into the mainstream and remains one of the best coming-of-age comedies ever made.
