Zachary Levi, the beloved star of Chuck and the voice of Tangled’s Flynn Ryder/Eugene has been rumoured to be cast as the lead in DC’s upcoming movie of Shazam!
Levi will square up against Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who had previously been announced as Black Adam.
The film is scheduled for a 5th April 2019 release with David F. Sandberg rumoured to be attached as director.
Shazam is about a young boy who is given the ability to become an adult superhero in times of strife with a single magic word – Shazam!
The DC Cinematic Universe needs new blood if it is to thrive beyond this iteration. So far in this universe we’ve had Man of Steel with Henry Cavill and the ensemble piece Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice introducing us to Ben Affleck’s Batman along with Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Jesse Eisenberg and Diane Lane.
Suicide Squad had the dream team of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker, with Will Smith, Cara Delevigne and Jai Courtney and Wonder Woman has impressed the most with Gal Gadot the out-and-out success story of this universe. Justice League is just around the corner, starring Affleck, Gadot, Cavill and Adams along with Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
It’s still early days for the production of Shazam! and it’s unclear at this point how the characters will appear together, with Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam touted as a spin-off movie.
Some interesting names were rumoured to have been on the shortlist including Armie Hammer, John Cena, Billy Magnussen, Derek Theler (star of the sitcom Baby Daddy), Zane Holtz (From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series) and Jake McDorman (Limitless TV series). But is was Zachary Levi who won out for the coveted role.
