As you’ve likely heard by now Cher one of the new additions to the cast for Mamma Mia’s upcoming sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and she’ll be playing the mother of Meryl Streep’s character Donna.
A new featurette has been released showing some of Cher’s scenes as she sings the ABBA classic Fernando. The featurette intersperses interviews with the cast and crew with behind-the-scenes footage of the film.
Producer Gary Goetzman excitedly speaks to the camera saying, “In just a few minutes Cher is going to be up on that balcony, singing Fernando. Can you believe that?” as he gets ready to film a scene with the music icon.
The cast and crew enthuse about having Cher be part of the film with writer/director Ol Parker saying, “Every time you offer someone a part, you have to have the next person in mind but in this case there was only one… Cher!”
It seems that Cher even has the seal of approval from ABBA’s very own Björn Ulvaeus who remarks, “To hear her sing Fernando… she was perfect for that song.”
Of course, Cher herself teases her role in the film explaining, “I come in in a helicopter, then I land and I come walking up with a cane… I’m different.”
She also talks fondly of her love for the music of ABBA revealing, “When I used to hear ABBA, it’s so fabulous. I mean the lyrics just totally grab me. It’s things I’ve felt a million times so it was easy to sing.”
