Amber Benson to star in new horror The Nightmare Gallery

Amber Benson, best known for her role as Tara in Buffy the Vampire, will star in The Nightmare Gallery it has been announced.

A new horror movie from Seraph Films, The Nightmare Gallery is a co-production with AWOL Studios. Three-time Tony nominated actor Kevin Chamberlin (Road to Perdition, Jessie) will co-star in the movie as a psychiatrist and Mat Devine, former frontman of the rock band, Kill Hannah.

The Nightmare Gallery follows Dr. Samantha Rand (Benson), an anthropology professor whose life is turned upside-down by the sudden, suspicious disappearance of her star pupil. But when a package of paranormal artifacts arrives on Rand’s doorstep three years later, she embarks on a nightmarish journey into mystery that will shake her and her wife to their cores. Through a terrifying, Lynchian lens, the film follows Professor Rand’s horrifying loss of self in pursuit of an extra-dimensional truth that could doom the world.

Charles Hilliard, executive producer and founder of AWOL Studios says, “What really excites us about this film is that we believe it achieves that very rare balance of creating an entertaining movie with an enduring message, but that it also has clearly defined target audiences and commercial value.ā€

Gene Blalock, director and founder of Seraph Films, says, “One of the driving forces behind this film is the realization that very few movies, particularly in the horror genre, feature LGBTQ characters and treat them like normal people, rather than caricatures. So while the anthropology professor is married to another woman, her sexual orientation doesnā€™t tokenize her or diminish the nuance of her characterization. Our intention with this film is to craft an outstanding horror film in its own right, but also one that would promote the idea that genre films can be about someone other than straight, white men and women.ā€

Principle photography will begin on The Nightmare Gallery this summer in Southern California. The film will be directed by Gene Blalock and is written by Jhan Harp and Rob Stith, with Jhan Harp producing. Charles Hilliard, of AWOL Studios, is an executive producer as well as Chad Carpenter, Paloma Bilson, Maria Wimmer, and Phil Goldberg from Seraph.

The Nightmare Gallery will build on the thematic elements in Seraph’s latest web series Horror Haiku: The Museum.
